About Wild Gardener

When what is beautiful matters.

My Story

Ever since I moved into my little house in Portland, Maine, I have been interested in creating lively and engaging outdoor spaces for myself and the children in my life. While running a small in-home outdoor childcare for the past 10 years, developing a compelling outdoor space has been a consistent interest.

Like many people, the past few years have caused me to shift my focus closer to home. I have refocused on the land around me and how I can invest more in the outdoor green spaces that surround me.

In thinking about what matters most to me and what I want to contribute to my community, I kept finding connections to native plants, trees, and organizations whose missions are to promote effective growing practices rooted in local ecology, such as Maine Audubon and Wild Seed Project. While these organizations provide incredible resources for people interested in rewilding their land, I saw an opportunity to make the process of planting native plants in an intentional way even more accessible.

In Wild Gardener, I want to make it very easy to do the right thing.  I want to curate ecological garden plants so that finding the “right plant for the right place” is be easy.  I want to empower urban and suburban ecological gardeners with plants, knowledge, and support.  A little tour guide for creating garden oases in our beautiful city.  To take care of the place where we live- it’s land and it’s life.
